Ann DAVIES
Following the recent, sudden and sad death of a great friend to all who knew her, so tragically taken by cancer on the 28th March March 2007. It has been decided by a group of her friends, to do a sponsored bike ride from Portmeirion in North Wales to Aberavon, South Wales in her memory.
'Team Ruby' (The Team) as the participants of the ride will be called, after her nickname Ruby WAX and her favourite colour red, will ride the whole distance of approximately 250 miles over a five day period, camping the night on the way.
All monies raised during this adventure will be donated to the cancer ward at Bridgend Hospital, where she worked as a nurse and was nursed up until her untimely death.
Team Ruby's riders are currently being finalised, as are the other details such as feeding the team, personal and vehicular support for the riders, finalising accommodation, final route and hopefully sponsorship.
The ride will commence on Wednesday the 1st August, concluding at the Aberavon Harlequins ground on Sunday the 5th August, where hopefully, there will be a big turnout to welcome the riders home, culminating (fingers crossed) in a BBQ on the Quins.
Should all go to plan, the team should reach Cardigan on the Friday night, and a beachside camping area in Pendine on Saturday night, before completing the journey to the Quins via Mumbles on Sunday morning - "well that's the plan anyway".
The reason for a weekend completion, is too enable as many people as is possible, to join in along the route and share in what is going to, ultimately, be a very fulfilling journey.
There will be a lot of work, pain and training to be completed before the ride commences, will update soon.
